Why Catholic Education?
The Church sees education as a process that, in light of man’s transcendent destiny, forms the whole child and seeks to fix his or her eyes on heaven. The specific purpose of Catholic education is the formation of students who will be good citizens of this world, loving God and neighbour and enriching society with the teachings of the Gospel.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ and his very person is to inspire and guide our Catholic school in every dimension of our life and activity – our philosophy of education, our curriculum, our community life, and our selection of teachers. Another mark of Catholicism is the emphasis on the school as a community – a community of persons and, even more to the point, a genuine community of faith. The Catholic school is an educational community.
In an age of information overload, Catholic schools must be especially attentive in their instruction to strike the delicate balance between human experience and understanding. We, as Catholic educators do not want our students to say, “we had the experience but missed the meaning”. We take pride in educating the whole student so they get the whole experience.
Why SBDHS?
If you are looking for a school that offers community, rigorous academic programming, faith, and extra-curricular opportunity then this is the school for you. We provide opportunities for our students to address social justice issues, engage as citizens of our community, experience enhanced learning opportunities, and express their artistic and athletic talents.
At SBDHS we don’t just graduate students, we empower them ….. to be young women and men of focused discipline, generous creativity, and uncompromising values. They take their 4 years of individual attention, rigorous instruction, and diverse co-curricular experiences – all grounded in a bedrock of Catholic faith – and spring to the next step of their journey.
Our teachers work closely with students and their families to ensure success. We support students who are high achievers as well as those who need a little more support. We have a dedicated Resource team and EAL Program.
We continue to offer many extracurricular activities that engage students in worthwhile pursuits, enrichment of their learning, or just plain fun and community building.
We strongly believe that the future of Catholic education and ultimately, the spiritual soul and ethical character of our communities, relies upon the strengthening of a Catholic K - 12 expectation for our faithful and faith-filled families. We are so much stronger together and the difference we can make as the united Body of Christ is aspirational but also achievable. It is an honor and a privilege we take very, very seriously as we offer ourselves as your “partner” in this most important developmental journey of your sons and daughters.

"Our son attended SBDHS for Grades 9-12. The administration, staff, and school community encouraged and instilled strong core values in him that he will carry with him throughout his lifetime. As an active member of the Parents’ Guild executive, I was able to witness the positive impact this school has on the future of our children."

"SBDHS is so much more than just a high school. It is a group of individuals who come together as a community: students, parents, teachers, and staff provide an environment for students where they can thrive and then strive to find their place in the world."
